Split billing

Bill several owners from one trip, or split a syndicate horse's charges by ownership share.

A single trip often serves animals owned by different people, and some horses are owned by a syndicate. decavet can split the work into the right bills rather than forcing everything onto one invoice.

Prerequisites: owners connected to the patients (see Assign owners & care team); for groups, a syndicate with current shares.

How splitting works

When an appointment involves more than one owner, decavet offers a way to decide who pays for what. The options are:

  • Primary only — bill everything to each animal's primary owner.
  • Per client — give each distinct owner their own invoice for their animals.
  • Proportional — split charges by ownership share (used for a syndicate horse, where each member owns a percentage).
  • Manual — you decide the split yourself.

Splitting a syndicate horse

  1. Make sure the horse's owner is the syndicate contact and its member shares total 100%.
  2. When billing the visit, choose a proportional split.
  3. decavet allocates each member their percentage of the charges.

Billing a multi-owner trip

  1. Complete each animal's visit with its services.
  2. When creating invoices, choose per client so each owner gets a bill for their own animals.

You'll know it worked when…

Each owner (or syndicate member) ends up with an invoice for their correct share, and the totals add up to the full work performed.

Important: Confirm ownership and syndicate shares are up to date before you split — the allocation uses whatever shares are recorded at billing time.
